Aluminum Compatibility/Recurve
« on: November 26, 2009, 09:21:00 PM »
If this is non-trad feel free to delete...this is my first post here.

In a gear trade I have aquired some aluminum arrows:

12 xx75 2117
7  xx78 superslam 2219
12  xx78 superslam superlite 2314

All arrows are 28"

I also aquired several broadheads,Muzzy 145 gr,rocky mt 125,and some tapered adapters for glue on heads. Also some screw in judos and filed points.

Before you nod off, heres the question, which of these if any would be matched to my kodiak hunter 50# @ 28(I draw 28).
I know I'll have to do something about the nocks as they dont fit on a 14 strand string...maybe a glue-in adapter to replace the uni-noc?

Any help would be appreciated,I am a dunce in re to aluminum shafting.

I do have heavier bows but they are longbows and I wont shoot aluminums out of them,no reason, just wont.

just my input but I think all those will be way overspined, especially at 28". I bet you'd need a 2016 or maybe even a 1916. if you find this to be true, you might could make some flu flu arrows from em though.

Yeah those are all pretty heavy for that bow.

the 2117's You would have to add 200 - 300 grns + the weight of the BH's to get them flying good.

I would look in to footing the 2117's to make them 30" BOP and that would help too. Good Luck.

All the arrows are alittle stiff for a 50# Kodiak hunter with a dacron string,I assume. They use to make little tapered adapters that would glue in the uni-bushing hole for glue-on nocks. But I haven't seen them in many years.I like to serve my 14 strand dacron strings with either .017 or .018 diameter serving. And for nocks I like to use Easton 3D Super nocks, they have the largest and deepest throat of those type of push in nocks I've found.A 2016 or maybe even a 2018 might be a beter choice for arrows.

Thanks guys, you have saved me some time.Would have been nice to use em,but I'll get rid of them somewhere instead.
On the bright side I picked up several bear razorheads and pearson deadheads in the same trade.

Try them first.I had 2117 that I had been trading untill the other when I screw a point on a bare shaft and it flew like a dart. I shoot 50# @28 with 170 grain point.
