and I missed, just over its back..now heres the bad part, only 6 yds...I have practiced out of a treestand but not that close. Also I don't think I picked out a hair,I was worried how I would react with a live animal but I stayed real calm, really concentrated on my draw and anchor but just don't remember picking out a hair.Oh well, really a great experience and I will practice some close shots out of my treestand. It was a 4 pt.buck with a big body.

Congrats on getting that close!
Picking one single hair is my issue too when deer are around. Hang in there!!

Congrats on getting close, Keep at it! Don't feel bad, I missed my first deer right over his back too! Luckily he came back and smelled my arrow setting himself up for another shot

Gotcha beat. I did the same with my first at 4 yards! Good luck on the rest of your season. Aim a little low so that if the the deer ducks you hit right where you want, they almost always do.

Yep it happens. One year I had a doe come to 6 yds. Pulled back and shot over. She just stood there and started eating again. I pulled another arrow, drew and shot. . .took a fletch off my first arrow.
Funny now, but I was ready to hang my self from the stand. LOL

Lol.. Fun though. I did the same thing early October. First shot ever at a deer with trad gear. 12 yds and I know I just pulled and shot at the deer not a hair. Right over her back. When she stopped at 22yds I had a little more focus going then.

Rick, those '59 grizzlys are well known for that,(at least mine is). You'll get another chance and when you connect you won't want to hunt with anything else!!
Good luck bud!

Congrats on the bigger picture. You will get the chance again. Been there. . . but you have proved it can be done. One less thing to worry about now!
Also, your mind can only concentrate on one thing at a time. I quit picking a spot and now shoot at a small black (or orange if you prefer) dot (or "button"). I train my mind year round to shoot at the small (1.5" dia) black dot. When a deer appears, I think "small black button" right . . . there! And my arrow hits the "button." Much easier for me than a hair.

I did the same thing on Thanksgiving day morning. For me, its hard to sit motionless in the cold for an hour and then have good form and concentration when it comes time to shoot. So now I pull my bow back and make sure I can feel my anchor and concentrate on a spot several times before the hunt starts. Like I told my wife, I would rather miss a deer then never have a shot at one. m2c
