I am pretty sure that you MUST use and outfitter, but a guide is optional. I have looked into hunts in Ontario and from the information that was sent to me, a guide was an option. When we bear hunt in Quebec, we use an outfitter, but once we set our stands, that is the last we see him in the woods until we start tracking or we need his assistance for something in camp. It may well be different with Moose hunting though. Check the Ministry of Natural Resources for the province you intend to hunt. Good Luck and let us know what you find out. Mike

In Ontario you must go through an outfitter but do not have to use a guide.

In certain units, a guide is required. Page 45 of the Ontario moose hunting regulations lists them as "9B, 10, 11A, and parts of 7B and 12B." The only reason the guide requirement for certain units jumped out at me was becuase I hunted moose in unit 11A three years ago.

In Ontario to use outfitter/guide same thing. Some outfitters have drop camp scenarios or cabins. To use outfitter meets the guide requirement even if no guide in deal.

If you want to check out Ontario Outfitter have a look at [email protected] I have been archery moose hunting with these guys for over 25yrs - fantastic outfit. Any questions on them just pm me.

In Alberta we have a license called the Hunter Host License. It allows an Albertan to take a non-resident or non-resident alien hunting in Alberta. Some paper work involved but if started a year in advance it shouldn't be much of an issue. Just need to make an Albertan buddy.

Hunting (except migratory birds)  falls under Provincial jurisdiction, therefore every Province (and Territory) have their own distinct regulations.

There are areas in Quebec where non-residents may hunt moose on their own but usually two, sometimes three tags are required for 1 moose (this applies for residents too).
May your next adventure lighten your heart, test your spirit, and nourish your soul.
