anyone ever foot aluminums??

Just wondered if anyone has tried footing aluminums? I know it works well for making carbons more resistance to breaking so wouldn't help aluminums too?

It might. I know 2315's You can fit a 11/32's wood dowel/shaft in it with very little sanding. I have 2315's to fix broken wood arrows that where just a little bit to short.

Footing carbons helps the front end from spliting or cracking.Aluminums will usally get bent before spliting or cracking like carbons.Footing aluminums is not necessary, footing carbons can make them a very tough arrow because they are tougher then aluminum.Aluminum will still get bent or dented. The open ends of a carbon are their weakest point, the point end and nock end.

The only aluminums that I had crack or break were brittle ones like the old X-7's. I have used tapered wood footings on aluminums for mounting hunting heads.

Search for the perfect arrow thread. Easy to make wooden tapered internal footings for Aluminums.

Yes, I've footed both 2016 & 2018 aluminums. A 2216 fits snugly over them. I've cut a piece 2-3/8" long & installed the 2216 insert in the cut piece for more weight. I then installed the insert into the 2018 or 2016 shaft as well. I then add a bit of hot melt on the end of outside shaft wall & slide on until the 2 inserts meet. I did this for a tougher front end & additional wt. My up-front weight ended up 180grn---That's with a 125grn head.
If you'd like to see a photo of the finished product then email me & I'll get one to you. It's in my drafts & this site won't allow any photos that aren't URL.

The reason I ask is my 2018 bend at the very front of the shaft after a hard impact. I understand what footing does and that it works for carbons. I just wondered if anyone had tried it with aluminums. Thanks for the input

Why would the carbon crack I have shot them into trees and heavy bone with my wheelie(200fps)and they never cracked(carbon force radial x weaves400)?

I have and it makes them tougher, I disagree that it doesnt help, I grew up in southern Nevada and there's lots of rocks out there. Plus is a good way to add some weight up front. I would Hot glue the footing over the shafts that way they were easy to take off.

Maybe not exactly footing but i just inserted a full lenght aquarium tube into my 2117's that i'm building and got the weight up from 580 to 710 grns. i guess if i use a shorter piece up front it would qualify as footing. Cant wait to see what these babys will blow through.
