Ordered my second Hummingbird longbow today.  a 3 piece this time.  I am looking for information 500-600 grain carbon arrows.  What are some opinions out there?  I was thinking Axis 400 spine, cut to 30 inches with 250 grains up front to start with. new bow will be 45lbs @ 26 but i also have a 50lb @ 26 as well.

Where are you from in Washington?  I'm in Wenatchee.

If you are looking for arrows for the 45lb bow, the 400 spine will most likely be way too stiff.  If you leave the 500's long with say 200 up front, you might get close to 500 grains, but I'm not sure.

Axis are pretty light shafts.  Beman MFX Realtree and Classics are also skinny carbon shafts that are heavier than the Axis.

The 400's might work for the 50lb bow, but once again, you will need to front load them and weight them up front.

Sometimes with carbons you will just need to shoot some and then get your length and tip weight figured out.

Hope this helps.

My wife shoots a 45# @ 26" DAS recurve. Her arrows are Beman MFX cut to 27" with 200 grains up front. Her arrows are 500 grains and shoot perfectly from her bow.

I shoot both axis and Bemans quite a lot... I think you'd be much better served with 500 spine shafts, for both bows. I don't think you'll have any problem with a 30" arrow with 250 up front and you'll be well over 500 grains..

Bill--400s or 500s for your wife?

I would guess 500s would be right for the Hummingbird.

I have a hummingbird recurve that's 50#@28" and I shoot GT 35/55 traditionals full length with the screw in weights.  I add 50gr behind the insert with a 150gr. point and a nock adapter with a 20 gr weight on the nock end. This adds up to a total right around 515-520gr.

Thanks for all the info/advice.  I'll start with the 500's.  Maybe the MFX's as well.  I will start at 30"  with 200+ up front wrapped with 5 inch feathers and see where I end up.  ;)
