string length/ brace ht for grizzly
« on: December 13, 2009, 03:21:00 PM »
I just had a decent used Bear Grizzly 50# given to me.  String is worn.  Right now string measures 53 3/8" and gives a BH of 8 7/8". Anyone have suggestions for good starting pt for brace ht and what new string length should I try initially.  Plain D50 or Flemish? Thanks for the help.  Been a wheelie guy for years and for last year have really been enjoying a Bear Montana Longbow.  Love it and got a doe with it the first shot opportunity this year!  Now am excited to try the recurve. I love tinkering and tuning and have thoroughly enjoyed all the insightful info on this website.  What a great wealth of knowledge everyone so generoualy shares.  Thanks.

The string should be about 4" shorter than the bow's AMO length.58" AMO,54" string.Brace height should probably be 7 1/2"-8".

If the Grizzly is a 58" bow you need to use a 54" string, flemish or endless loop both will work fine. I would stick with dacron for the string, that is what I use on all my Kodiaks and they shoot smooth and quiet. I would start with a BH of 7" and shorten from there if needed. I believe my Kodiaks are BH of between 7 1/4" and 7 1/2".

Yep, a 54" string will work if it's a 58" Grizzly.  Personally, I like a brace of 7.75"-8.25" for the Grizz.

thanks for the advice.  Ordered 54" endless loop and flemish twist to compare.
