Commemorative Knife (Status Update)
«

I got another call from Daniel (Bull Grizzly) last night and though he can't (won't
) tell me much in the way of specifics, the process on my knife from Ga.boy (that was his Dad's in the Marines) is well under way. Right now the knife is off getting something done, that Daniel always sends out to be done, after he did some of his magic to it. Now he is working on it's new handle. He's says it will take some time but it will be special - (I never had a doubt in my military mind, as we used to say in the Corps - LOL). He really has me hyped up though - likes to, "twist the knife a little," so to speak.

This knife is going into the realm of art. I know what's being done to it and Bernie is going to be one estatic Marine. But he'll have to wait for the surprise.

Bernie,
Man oh man, I can't wait to see the pictures of this reborn warrior! Thank you Bernie, and you Daniel and everyone else involved in the transformation of this old blade. I'll bet my Dad is watching every step of the process and following the knife in its journey from artisan to artisan. With a big smile on his face!
David, Tell me, tell me!
Jake's suprise went out yesterday.( Hint: Whack em' n WingNuts ).

Don't know yet Ian. We will have to wait and see, but I'll guarantee you that it will awesome, considering the talent that is going into the refurbishment of this special blade. If you don't know the story behind this, check out this link:

This project is going to take several months and travel many miles all over Canada to some of her finest craftsmen/women. It is going to be a tribute to American Soldiers/Sailors who have served and are serving. Will be a while before there are any pics I believe. This will be a priceless knife when it's done, but it has some more journeying yet to bring it to what it will be.

Reminds me of another K-Bar story. My marine buddy and childhood friend took a headshot in Viet Nam. Lost his K-bar at some point after being shot. When I came home in 69 they were taking everything away from us prior to getting on the plane home so I taped my K-Bar to my calf and when I got home gave it to my buddy. That was a long time ago and he still has the knife.

Yep, them K-bars get around (and STAY around). Years ago I quit hunting (of all kinds for awhile - long story I don't go into much) and gave my K-bar to my best hunting buddy at the time (another Marine). I am sure one of his boys (probably the oldest) still has it in TX. I mentioned on a thread one day thet I kinda wished I still had it. Ga.boy saw that and thus his Dad's old knife wound up with me (bless both of their hearts.)
I am pretty well convinced it isn't gonna be a "Carryin'" kind, anymore, Swampbuck - except in my heart - for all our boys and girls in uniform. I also know one more thing I think I can let slip - Daniel told me it already has my, and Charles Bunn's (Ga.boy's Dad),serial numbers acid etched in the blade, one on each side. (See, I had a reason for asking for that, Chuck - ha-ha.)

my dad , Brad Johnson, gave me his service knife when I was 13 a few years ago, my dad was in the army special forces during vietnam , on a mission somewhere in Cambodia or Laos, the guy in front of my dad hit a trip wire, that guy hit the dirt and my dad had three bamboo shoots in his side, he lived
Chuck, I really want to see your dad's knife after its done, I'm sure it will be turned in to a real work of art
