Well this week, I have been busy converting two more guys to the fold! Yessiree, they have seen the errors of their ways. Really, my boss and friend who I work with, wanted a good starter takedown curve, so I sold him one for what I had in it, made him a tab, and put wraps and feathers on a dozen arrows he had been using for his compound, told him that was his Christmas present when he picked up the arrows and tab. He let me know that he had given his compound to his son, figured he wouldnt get good with a trad bow if he kept the wheel bow around, so off it goes. I was kinda shocked, he had asked about trad a few times, didnt seem serious, so I asked him why the sudden change. He simply stated "You and some of your trad buddies have more fun bowhunting than anybody I know, thats where I want to get to". Pretty simple and understandable statement. I was tickled for him, we are gonna be spendin a lot of time flingin arras!
2nd convert is my neighbor, 2 doors down. He and I grew up in this same neighborhood, got married and both raised our families close by. He and his son were avid hunters, until he lost his 20 year old son 2 1/2years ago to a heart anuerism. He had gotten rid of his bows and he hadnt hunted since then till this year, got his guns and ML's out, I helped him zero them and encouraged him to get back into his hobbies, his son would want him to. I could relate, I lost my 19 year old son 7&1/2 years ago to a car accident, 2months to the day from his 20th birthday. He kept stopping by this summer watching me shoot nearly daily, would stop by on his ATV. Kept meaning to get himself a bow, but said he couldnt afford it, this economy is hard on him and his family.I offered him one of mine, wouldnt take it, said he could wait till he cold buy one himself. Well, the other day I took a Ben Pearson #50, 58" recurve in on trade, few scuffs, needed a string and rest. I put on a rest, made a new string, put wool puffs in it. I dug through my arrows, and found 6 that matched, right spine and refletched them. I also found a glove I dont shoot anymore, oiled it up.Then I hatched my plan I called him over, got him to help me move some farm machinery and stuff for about an hour and offered to pay him, he wouldnt take anyhting, so I had him come in my shop and get a cold pop, and drug out the recurve, arrows and glove, told him nobody was gonna help me work and not get paid for it, at least take this in return and handed the stuff over. He was tickeled pink, grinned real big and said "I been set up", I winked at him and told him "you reckon, Have a Merry Christmas". He thanked me and left. This evening I came home from work, was driving by his place and saw a big hunk of styrofoam in the front yard, being perforated with arrows. He was out in a cold, light drizzel, 34 degrees, flingin arrows and grinning from ear to ear like a littl boy. That made my Christmas right there fellas. Just thought I would share. Sam.
