Static tip bow string length and brace height
« on: December 23, 2009, 09:43:00 AM »
I have several old Bear statics that are in good shape and that I would like to shoot and hunt with. Is there a rule of thumb for determining a starting point relative to string length? I am also concerned with the initial bracing not being too high, so that I don't overstress the limbs.
Thanks,
Chuck

If you're talking about the static Kodiak and Grizzly from the 1950's, then unfortunately you'll just have to brace the bow with an adjustable string to determine string length.  (get a tillering string with a loop on one end and tie a bowyer's knot on the other end).

Each of those bows was a little different and even within a model and year the length could vary by nearly an inch... and still be marked the same.
