I was hunting yesterday evening, I was standing their with bow in hand watching some does feed. After about ten minutes of holding my bow my arm started getting tired. I lowered my bow down a little and let the bottom bow tip rest down in the top of my rubber knee high boots. I never thought to do this before and just wanted to share. You can keep your bow ready for action while not even holding the weight of your bow.

Yep.  It works if your boots are the right height.  That's also why a lot of folks sew a loop or pocket in the shin area of their pant leg -- to hold the lower limb tip while standing.

During the late season when the weather gets cold here in Mi. I usually wear 18" tall gaiters, my lower limb, fits right in there also.

Years ago, before compounds, some of the makers of hunting/camo pants made small pockets just above the knee. It was for your limb tip. They worked great.
Maybe we could add a small pocket to our new camo pants.

Yeah, remember the Camo Clan pants that had both a pocket for the trad guys and a loop for the wheel guys?

I tie a piece of shoestring or parachute cord around the bottome of my pants and double tie it. You can stick your bow tip in it perfectly.

I wear muck boots a lot when I'm hunting and I starting putting the lower limb down inside my boot also. Works pretty good.

I sew a little pocket on the inside of my pants about thigh high that allows me to hold my bow at almost "ready to draw" height.  I works like a charm when you can hear them coming and can get ready before they can see you. Helps you stand still with the bow ready to be drawn with a minimum of movement.

Every pair of hunting pants I own has this little alteration added. In fact, back in the '60's I used to cut the finger from an old glove and sew it just above my left knee. Now days I just cut a small square of camo cloth and glue the bottom and sides with fabric cement you buy at sewing/ fabric shops. Simple, quick, inexpensive and works like a charm when you're standing there on red alert. You just balance your bow and lift the tip when it's time to shoot.  BW

I started doing that years ago and have meant to put a pocket on my pants ever since. But I will next year.
  I have another tip: a well seasoned bow hunter like uncle Barry will check a thread like this to see if he can learn something new. I like that. Never think you know it all & never quit learning.

I just got a new pair of unhemmed Microtex pants from Cabelas. I plan on doing that little pocket idea with the extra fabric. For a couple of years now, I've thought about sewing a couple of buttons side by side near the thighs. That way when I'm sitting I could have my bow on my lap with an arrow knocked with the string trapped between the two buttons. With my bow quiver on the bow it always seems to be front heavy and won't just stay there by itself.

That's cool, never thought of that - Simple and sweat...Thanx... Have sewed loops on some pants, but don't have them on all pants and sometimes carry a small 3/4" backpack type strap material with buckles to go around my leg, then make another loop at the end with another buckle to allow the bow tip to seat.


Have also used a small plastic dog leash type snap attached to a key ring (found in drug stores) and run the key ring through a front belt loop which the clip can then snap to the bow string depending on length of the bow and the location of the pant leg loop, can then be adjusted so that the bow can balance hands free. The clip snaps off easily when you need it and your drawing hand is already near the string. Works well in cold weather when you want both hands in pockets. Spent lotz of time on cold blustery January tree stands, although have retrieved a lot of arrows at the bottom of the tree when exiting stands...8^)
