Stumping can be hazardous to your arrows
« on: April 13, 2007, 08:00:00 PM »
I went out with Shawn, Damon and Justin today for some target practice. We walked a large circle setting out balloons. We all popped a couple....Shawn was showing off. LOL. I started with nine arrows, I only lost one. All in all, a great time.

Guess I need new arrows.

Yeah it was a great time. If you look close, only the top three arrows are relatively intact. I could think of much worse things to kill time with though...

try that method of planing them off on a disc sander and gluing on a piece.  I have done that and am now in the destruction tesing mode.  Have not broken one yet.  I have recovered a half dozen so far!  They may be even tougher with that diagonal spice!

Jamie, how many bunny arrows did you find on your stump shoot? If you guys walk over to the south side of the greenhouse I know you'll find 9 bright arrows within a 20 yard circle just laying on the leaves. There's no way they buried under the leaves with the 2 foot of snow we had that day! LOL

Hell, 2 hours of walking would probably produce a years worth of stumpers for all of you.  :)

Yeah man, we had a great time. Damons son Justin shot very well today. Jamie was tough on his arrows but we were shooitng thru trees(IN Jamies case literally)  :bigsmyl:  and lots of rocks were waiting to bust up his arrows. I was shooting CX Heritage 150s and I broke zero. We shot balloons for close to 3 hours and enjoyed each others company very much!! Shawn

Sounds like a blast guys, i like to break my arrows when i go stumping they end up glancing off something and breaking in the middle. Joe and i are going to shoot today it's supposed to be nice out i want to shoot out of my blind for some turkey practice. I wished i lived closer to you guys maybe sometime we can find a central location to get together and shoot or hunt.

Jamie has a great arae to hunt and shoot in. We saw a bunch of turkeys and deer sign everywhere. The best shot of the day was made by Justin, he broke a balloon at about 30 yards with his little osage charater bow. Shawn

That was an awesome shot Justin made. I think the double balloon through the dead pine tree shot came in a close second....even if it was your arrow! LMAO. Come to think of it...we all made some pretty nice shots. I almost did it again today.....almost. I ended up practicing with the LB though(more arrows for that one!) Threw and old orange out into the back yard and poked a few holes through it....Not as fulfilling as the "pop" of a balloon though, but nice to hit where ya look.

Ya know I only found 6 arrows in that snow pile, I do not know if someone was back there before me, but that was it. We had a good time and are gonna try and do the shooting thing once a week or so. Shawn

I shoot lots of stumps and my area is not arrow friendly. The stumps are hard and the woods has rocks sticking up everywhere. Just for the heck of it I started counting how many arrows I break or lose in a year.

So far in 2007 I have lost or destroyed 58 arrows! And I still have 8 1/2 months to go!

It's a good thing I love to make wood arrows. I scrounge up cheap shafts at swap meets, use dowel rods, buy seconds, etc. I make them cheap. Money well spent for the enjoyment I get out of it.

I am seriously thinking about moving to carbons for my Chekmate. I love making woodies, but I think being able to shoot arrows more than three or four times is important for my form.LOL
Mike, I have been shoveling! Would ya tell Chuck to cut it out already? LOL. Funny though....its snowing like crazy here....and the birds are still gobbling.
Shawn, What about those nice arrows out by the greenhouse? Wanna pick em up for me? LMAO. I will need your input soon as far as arrows for my recurve. I would like to have it all set up so I can just practice until bow season.
OK...have to shovel out my targets....
