My thoughts on carbide steel sharpeners.
« on: December 27, 2009, 08:00:00 PM »
For the past season I tried two of these handi knife/BH sharpeners that you just pull through.
I have been using a 3Rivers for 3 blades, woodsmans and snuffers and another American Sharpener for 2 blades and boning knives. Now I can sharpen about anything with an edge and get it scary sharp, may take a little time but two blade heads and knives it is a matter of seconds with my buffing set up, have done a bunch for members here who can attest to that. Well guys, here is my conclusion. For hunting, these two sharpeners cant be beat, especially to touch things up in the field.I sharpened some new Ace standards out of the pack, 6 strokes with the American shaprener one each side, and it was popping hair. The 3Rivers 3blade sharpener takes all the work out of sharpening woodsmans, pull each blade through the v slot 4-5 times, you can feel and see it pullin metal off! Then lay one side, two edges down on the ceramic backing on the sharpener itself and gently move in a circle 5-8 strokes, repeat for all 3 sides. Dont put pressure on this, you will roll the edge. You end up with a edge that will be shaving,or close to it and cuts through critters like they are hot butter. Even though I have some high tech sharpening equipment, this will probably be my  system from now on for broadheads. It is comparabley close to a carefully filed head that will shave, takes about 1 minute a head. That leaves me more time for shooting and hunting. I was cutting up a doe the wife shot the other day. Boning knife got a little dull, pulled it through the sharpener 3x, razor edge again.I thought I would post this, due to folks having trouble sharpening broadheads and knives, thought It would help out. I just sharpened some WW for Bowlovingman, maybe he will chime in here and give his two cents worth on the results. Holler if I can be of any help. Sam.

Koger:

Do you have specific names and where to order these from?

Thanks,

Tim
