Thanks Terry.

My son and I are pleased to announce a new venture for us, Mule Creek Outfitting.  We have just completed the paperwork to purchase the Mule Creek Camp from Trophy Mountain Outfitters in Daniel Wyoming.  We will try to have a website up and running within a week or so.  We still have some hoops to jump through getting our state outfitting license, guide licenses and transfer of the federal permits.  Until those things are done by law we are not allowed to book hunts for our business therefore, we will be the booking agent for this camp.  Hunts will be booked with Dustin Child's Trophy Mountain Outfitters.
 http://www.trophymountainoutfitters.com/
My son and I will be hosting this camp, hopefully under our own license by the time August rolls around, or under Dustin's permit if there is any unforseen delay in obtaining the necessary permits.

We will be offering elk, antelope, mule deer, mountain lion, black bear and moose hunts.  Our camp is at the head of mule creek in the north end of the Wyoming Range, just west of Daniel Junction, Wyoming.  I have evaluated hunting camps in several states before deciding on locating our business in this area. I have hunted from The San Juan's in Southern Colorado to the Bush Country in Northern Alberta all states in between.  I have not seen anyplace with higher numbers of game, more species or better habitat than the area we have chosen in northwestern Wyoming.  Wolf numbers are kept in check in this area so as to not affect ungulate recruitment.  This area is on the southern edge of grizzly country but is not overrun with them. An occaisional grizz has been seen but grizzly bear sightings are a rare event. Our area has great elk summering ground on top of the mountain, a couple of winter feed grounds at the base of the mountain and several old clear cuts and burn areas in between.  Elk numbers are at all time highs.  This area is also famous for huge mule deer and more book animals come from this region than anywhere else. Mule deer buck quality has historically been very good and was even better this year.   The previous outfitter has not hunted bears in the past 7 years and the state wildelife biologists tells me that bear numbers are very high in this unit.  If you have enough points for moose, inquire.  I saw 5 moose on a trip to the camp this past November, they are plentiful.  Antelope are hunted on private ranchland and BLM property accessed through private land.  Mountain lion hunts are done in the winter when snow is on the ground.  We are subcontracting a houndman to run these hunts for us.

Bear and Mountain lion tags are over the counter.  Mule Deer, elk, moose, and antelope tags are issued by a drawing and preference points will help in getting tags.

Check the sponsor classifieds for some archery hunts we are going to offer.

I am looking for a drop camp hunt for this fall, early Sept archery season. I have hunted just south of there in the past. Are you going to be offering drop camp hunts in the back country? You can PM me if you prefer.

Very cool John!  Glad to hear you got the deal done.
What moose unit are you in and how many points are needed?  I think I have 8 points now. Will be starting to think about using them before too long.

Since there will likely be other people wanting to know about drop camps I will address your question here.  We are governed by the Big Piney Office of the US Forestry Service.  At present they do not permit any drop camps on the east side of the Wyoming Range within their jurisdiction.  I have requested permission to add a provision for drop camps to my permit.  The preliminary indication is no drop camps, though the permit has not yet been written and will not be written until we have the outfitter permit from the State of Wyoming.

We will be offering an economy hunt out of our base camp.  This will be a fully outfitted hunt with the same amenities as our regular hunt.  Packing your gear in and out, heated tent, with cot and mattress, hot meals morning and night, sack lunch, and pack out your dressed elk from the nearest trail.  Treestands over wallows, blinds, orientation and advice on where/how to hunt the area will be provided. Just no guide by your side to call for you every day.  First week early seaon  5 days hunting Sept. 1-5 3000.   Second week Sept 7-11 3500.  Pack in and out the day before and day after your 5 day hunt.

Same hunts with a guide add 500.

Whip, Thank you.

We hunt moose in unit 24.  Last year nonresident draw odds with preference points were 100% with 9 points.  I suspect this year will require 9 or 10 points to draw.  You are getting close, but with point creep no telling how long it will take.  Dustin has taken mostly rifle hunters but he has been 100% on moose.  The hardest thing about moose hunting is drawing the tag.  With the Wyoming license structure you have a long season and can use your same tag for early archery season and rifle season if you need to.

Yeah, I sure understand that point creep thing.  Kind of like running on a treadmill - I keep going and going but never seem to get anywhere

Good luck on the new venture!!  I hope someday to experience it first hand!

John is a great guy, cook, and bowhunter also has thorough experience with horses and elk.

between himself, his Son and his Guides you can expect the best in a professional guided hunt.

would encourage anyone wanting a quality hunt in WY to look them up first.

Also keep an eye on the Sponsor classified for some great deals for Tradgang members.

So now the MO Sherpa is an outfitter & guide... well done! I could not think any two men, better outfitters and guides then these two.

As Andy said in the above post, both John and Jacob are fine hunters, knowledgable in hunting Elk (14 season I from my last count) with horses and pack strings and doing 'deep in' back country drop camps.

As some on here know I hunted with John and Jacob last Elk season in CO and as it is said, you can judge the character of a man when you hunt with him, more so in a back country hunt like we did.

These two gentlemen are fine upstanding men, who I'd stand  beside (and in front if it come to it) and trust 100%. Hell... I did so in travelling 3/4 around the world to hunt with 'em.

I plan to be booking again soon with John once I have enough "Marriage Points" up again!

Best of luck and I'm sure the family of Trad Gang will look after 'Mule Creek Outfitters'
