great season
« on: December 29, 2009, 02:06:00 PM »
Well I shot my kansas buck two evenings ago.  After over 200 hours on stand this is a trophy for me.  I have passed up several great bucks and missed a dandy.  I have seen four big boys and one giant.  This little guy had broke his leg badly and with the season almost over I thought it best to take him.  The shot was long 35 yards or so.  Waited for him to quarter away about 45degrees to give me more room for error.  I would not take that shot at a healthy animal, but this guy would not of lasted long in his condition and a healthy amount of coyotes in the area.  The shot was good and he stumbled about 50 yards and piled up.  What an end to a great season.   [IMG]

Andy, I don't think you got the entire link pasted.  Would love to see the picture.

200 hours is a long time.  I tried to keep a journal this year and logged about the same amount of time.  Every day for nearly 80 days trying to kill one buck.  Only to pass on him twice for various reasons after seeing him only 5 times total.

It's hard to keep your chin up after so long but it sounds like you kept at it and was rewarded.  Congrats again.

PS.  Is this the Andy Dirks that was drafted by the Tigers in 08 out of Wichita State?

They are trophied when you hunt them hard way, Nice Deer and great shot!

Jayhawker I had a season about like yours same buck seen about 5 times. Twice at less than ten yards and couldn't get right shot angle. Got to looking at some pics on a trail cam of him and servived the season, he's at least a 160 class deer, nice 12. Maybe next year but this year it was good enough just being there.
