Feathers ... Muskovy (Muscovy) duck
« on: January 02, 2010, 10:15:00 AM »
Late this season had occassion to hunt with a young Amish trad hunter. I noticed his arrow fletchings ... large black & white and sable & white left wing helical fletched. I inquired what he was using. He said he uses Muskovy duck primaries. Known as "musk ducks" they raise them for slaughter. Feathers are very tough, large
and extremely weather proof. He claims far more so than goose feathers. Just thought might be of interest. I picked up about 30 or so off of the ground around their farmyard.

Cool, do you have any pictures maybe? Of either just feathers, or on an arrow?

By The Way, a link to pics of the real thing, not just the feathers  :)

I have Muscovy ducks and the feathers are very nice for fletching.
They are also known as turkey ducks.
