Sheds?
« on: January 03, 2010, 12:15:00 PM »
Happy New Years guys!  I was in North Carolina for New Years and my 6 year old daughter came across a fresh shed (blood and hair still on). I thought it a little early, but was wondering when do the horns typically fall?

Anytime from mid December to late March is what I've seen.  Depends on lots of different things from stress, health, cold etc.

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

I found one today. Left side of a little six pointer. Fresh blood on the base. Dropped with in the last 24 hours.

Okay, where's the pics of these fresh finds guys?  You don't get away with just talking about fresh drops.     "[dntthnk]"

I saw the "I Buy Antlers" truck today going by with a full load here in Flagstaff. So, they're out there.

Thanks guys I'll keep my eyes open on horse back rides with the wife.  I see a lot of deer sign and most of it is on public property.  Hope to find a place to bag a deer next year.  I already have my eyes on two spots.

We found two different ones last Monday. They are dropping them here already. Our smoke pole season is real late here in Ohio(this coming weekend). Hopefully the boomers won't kill off our bucks thinking they are does.  :scared:

My friends start looking for them in February/March through May.  Last year they found over 200 sheds.  This spring they may approach 1500 sheds (over 8 years).

I've seen some drop them in December and some still have them in February.

I just shot a buck on the 27th that shed its antlers.  I thought it was a big ole' doe. It looked like it had just shed them maybe a day or two ago. It probably would have been a six pointer or basket rack eight.  Usually, it is the younger (2-4 year old) bucks that shed early.
