Sika in Maryland? Need info
« on: January 03, 2010, 01:00:00 PM »
I have been trying to find more info on Sika in Maryland.
The Maryland DNR site gives you a run down of the rules and such but I want to know if there is public land where they are found.   :help:
They look like a super fun challenge!!
Just one more step please!

Sikas can be hunted at:

Assateague Island - state and federal lands, need to sign in and buy permit to drive on beach.

Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge - need permit

Fishing Bay WMA - free to hunt by land or boat

Taylor's Island WMA - no permit needed but need boat to get to better hunting (walk-in is blocked off by private club)

Chesapeake Forest Lands - no permit needed

If you want to hunt with an outfitter, I would suggest Muddy Marsh Outfitters. They are a couple of good guys who do nothing but bowhunting. The cost is about $330 for two days.

One other place I forgot to mention is Lecompte WMA. It's not a gold mine but another place where sikas can be found.

I hunted with muddy marsh 4 times back in the late 90's all in JAN.Really nice guy frist class outfitter one time I was there a lady killed the MD state record.Don't know if it still stands I eas huge next day she killed a whitetail she'd just came from canada where she killed a bear.
It's all over feeders and this late theres been a lot of people ahead of you.He has alot of hunters go through his stands.I think hr said he had 89 hunters had aready when throuigh his camps a head of us.Really thick [merkle]cover  some hardwoods.Your either setting over ise or water there. They don't make trails all water.Feeders are set up in slues only trails in and out where they can get feed back to.There noctoural but they have to eat.Plus when the marsh frezzes there hooves are convexted not concaved not like a whitetail and they can't do ice at all.So go really early ahead of everyone or late when every time frozze up.And your the only crazy one there. You can also shoot a whitetail there at some areas.Bow only there, there one of the hardest there is to hunt.

I emailed Muddy Marsh 2 of the last 3 years and never got a response. Also called once and no answer. Are they still in operation? All the feedback I read about them has been very good, but.....

TJ, the owner of Muddy Marsh moved a few years back. Maybe his email changed. Try calling him.
