Need suggestions on a beaver I need tanned
« on: January 05, 2010, 07:03:00 PM »
Killed it with the bow in the back yard trying to cut down one of my oak trees. I don't want to waste it, and thought it might make a great cover for a home made quiver? Could a local taxidermist soft tan it for me? I really don't have the time to do it myself. What would be a fair price to get it done? Thanks in advance.

Save the tail.  Check out the prior posts on grips made from the tail.

I tan beaver all the time no taxidermist needed.  I gotta say it costs me a lot more than $100 and I don't think I can hang it on the wall, willow hoop or no willow hoop.    ;)

You could just degrease the skin and let the rawhide dry in the shape of a quiver like Ishi did with his otter quiver.
