I'm new to this but I might try different weight field tips to see if that corrects the spine difference? That would tell me if the side plate thickness was an issue, right?

Agree with all of the above.  My RER vortex longbow shoots 400 spined carbon arrows (like the GT 55/75) with 220 grains up front, but the arrows are 30" long and I'm drawing around 60# at just over 29".  That coupled with the fact that my release isn't very smooth might mean that your arrows are a little stiff.  Easiest solutions have been described.

well, the more i think about it the more i agree with the stiff arrows.. since i cant add length to my arrows, im gonna take the velcro off the side plate and try some adhesive backed felt..

it should be alot thinner than the velcro. i can add more weigh up front as well i guess.

If you were getting a plucking release the other night,  due to work pressure or worrying about the kids or that darned replaced arrow rug.. or whatever, it could make your arrow jump left by that much easily.    Are you sure its the arrow / rest causing this ?

Both of the bows I used to hunt this year had sealskin rests that were worn. I feel the seal hair is not durable enough so I changed both rests to the fluffy side of commercial velcro I bought after hearing about it on this site.

It works great, arrow flight did not change. So far I find that although it is not quite as quiet as sealskin it is quiet enough, with the added benefits of being easy to find, inexpensive, easy to install, durable, and it does not absorb water.
May your next adventure lighten your heart, test your spirit, and nourish your soul.

I use velcro, the fuzzy part not the loops. Never had a problem. But I tuned my arrows with it on already. The velcro last forever.

I wouldn't use velcro as a rest! I know people have done it. The fact is velcro is commonly made of nylon. Nylon is surprisingly abrasive. I'd worry about ruining the arrow finish.

the "fuzzy" part IS the loops. velcro has hooks and loops. the hooks are the rough side, and the loops are the "fuzzy" side.

i used the fuzzy side.

Gaff, get some more sealskin, or reattach the one that fell off. You had great arrow flight Sunday at Shawns...

One question though, did you use two pieces of velcro-one for the rest and one for the side plate? Or did you just use one long piece? Just thinking that one piece might be snagging the fletch and causing the issue.

I was shooting left all day Sunday and realized it was my old anchor issue popping up again.

Hope it gets fixed soon....

Quick test may point you in the right direction. Try shooting with the cock feather in. If your flight improves you probably have a problem with the feathers contacting something.

Jamie, You can't add length, but you can easily add more weight...

Every archery shop I've been in has said that the Gold Tip charts are on the stiff side and that people tend to make mistakes when choosing between the 3555 and 5575.

My Dad is shooting a 3555 cut to 30" with a 125g tip and that is by far the best shooting arrow out of his 53# @ 29".

However, if you achieved good flight before, I would go back to what you know shoots good.

Jamie, they sound a bit stiff. You may need 300 up front on those. When ya come next time, shoot my arrows, Heritage 150 cut to 29.5"s with 175 up front. I promise they will fly perfect for ya. The velcro would not make that much of a difference. It is all I use and never have a problem. Shawn

I've used velcro and never noticed a bit of difference in arrow flight, nor did it wear my arrows (wood, aluminum, or carbon). I'm with the "your arrows are too stiff" crowd. I have found that even the 3555 GTs are darn stiff. I had to load the tip heavier than I wanted (total weight was too high). I switched to Beman ICS Bowhunter 500s and have had great luck with them out of my bows from 46 to 53# @ 28". I was amazed at the difference.

I would get some new Sealskin and put that back on the bow. I wouldntthink of changing my setup just because of a simple maintanence isssue. Its easy to run out of stuff, such as shelf material.

Whenever I make an order from 3Rivers or KustomKing or whoever I'm getting stuff from, I try to throw in a extra set of skin, and some string silencers, nock sets etc. Better to have a bunch of 'em sitting in my bow box than to be stuck  tryin to make something else work. With a wife and 2 boys that also shoot trad, I'm always fixin something. If I don't keep 3 of everything, I'll be shorthanded before I know it.

After you replace your sealskin, then I would try tinkerin with your arrow setups. But I would not re-inventthe wheel over a piece of velcro that isnt workin for ya.
