Montana Pitch Blend ?

You really want to avoid anything with silicone in it, especially on leather goods.

Some folks swear by Bear Grease, although I don't use it since it has petroleum products in it and is made in Finland, I believe.

Bear Guard is made in Maine and is primarily Bear fat and bees wax.  Works great on leather that you PLAN on getting wet.

Paste, been using it for quite some time now, great stuff! Don't care for the liquid, just my opinion.

Been using the paste for a long time with great results.  As mentioned before, the paste liquifies when you rub it in.  My first pair of Russell boots are going on 7 yrs old, and I'm sending them in to be resoled this winter (walked the original soles smooth) and Pitch Blend has kept this leather as new.  I apply whenever it looks like it is drying out a bit or after hunting in really wet weather.  Probably every 10 days to 2 weeks during hunting season.

I don't like my leather goods softening too much and losing shape or stretching...

The mink oil in MT Pitch tends to do that due to the mink oil. I've been using another product, Australian Leather Dressing...harder, and doesn't soften the leather, fwiw.

I used Pitch Blend before it even went on the market. Howie Fly invented the original formula that Paul Brunner started selling. They paid kids to gather pine pitch. Paul's brother Bill eventually took over the Pitch Blend business. Sno-Seal has petroleum distillates in it. Big difference. You could eat Pitch Blend, although eating mink oil is probably not a good idea. Where the hell does mink oil come from anyway? I put a mink in a vise once and got no oil whatsoever out of it....

By the way, Pitch Blend works GREAT on fabric treestand seats that squeak. I used to hunt out of Climax hang-ons a lot. The fold up fabric seats always squeaked in cold weather. IO tried everything to quiet them. Nothing worked until I put Pitch Blend across the metal bar on the folding seat where it touches the fabric. Your seat will never squeak again.

First buck mink I caught at Freezout Lake up on the MT highline, I tried to skin in my kitchen...I knew the tail had to be perfect and was nervous as I split and tried to "pull" it...must've squeezed the haunches just a bit too hard in my anxiety and had buck mink gland spray all over the bloody kitchen... Nothing 4 hrs of MT winter winds blowing through the place didn't fix.

Yep, Pitch blend! Works great on the squeaks in the quiver straps. I used it once on a ash selfbow. Gave it a nice golden color!

Gene, was the mink alive or dead? I think it only works when alive  :D

I have been using Schnee's lately just because it's odor free. Don't know what it's made of, but it works well. I will sure try Bill Turner's Canola Oil. Thanks for the tip Bill.

I was told by a leather dealer to use kiwi neutral shoe polish and protects and nourish the leather. After I'm done do some small pieces of leather work I seal it with this and it doesn't soften the leather it makes it a little darker but I would like to try the pitch blend.

The oil is good for conditioning, but less good for waterproofing due to the lower wax content. Personally, I like Sno Seal better for leather boots--doesn't soften them up so much.
