SPRING BEAR HUNT at Mule Creek Outfitting
« on: January 19, 2010, 11:18:00 AM »
After some deliberation we have decided to offer some spring bear hunting this spring.  The previous owner of this outfit did not offer any spring bear hunting over the past 7 years so we do not have any well established baits with bears that have been trained for years to come and check out. Based upon my conversations with the Wyoming State wildlife biologist for our area there are good numbers black bears in our unit and most of the bears (80%) in our area are color phases of chocolate, red, cinnamon and an occaisional blonde.  Since we do not have well established bear baits we are planning to offer some short notice bear hunts this spring.  My son is going to start a few baits this spring, equipped with trail cameras.  When we know we have a good bear hitting a bait we will call hunters on our list to come on out for a hunt.  We will require a deposit to get on our list.   If you are not able to come we will move down the list until someone takes the hunt.  If you are unable to make it out on short notice or if we don't have enough bears hitting our baits to call everyone on our list, your deposit will be promptly returned to you.  If you are wanting a big color phase bear this should be a good hunt for you.  No extra travel days, No extra motel costs while laying over in Canada waiting for a flight home.  No extra air fair to Canada, No hassles with Customs.  Come and hunt bears with us in Wyoming.

We will provide a motel room and meals for the duration of your stay, but this should be a relatively short hunt since we will have a hot bait stand waiting for you before you are called.
We don't want to waste your time coming to a hunt that may not have any active bears.  The officer I visited with from the State of Wyoming tells me the third week of May is the peak time for checking in bear kills.  We would expect the second and third weeks of May would be prime time to be calling you, so plan accordingly.

We are beginning our winter promotion tour.  We just finished our first show at the Council Bluffs, Iowa Pheasants Forever expo.  We talked with a lot of nice folks that were interested in bear hunts so we have decided to offer a few this spring.  We are giving first dibs on these hunts to Trad Gang members.  We have 5 more midwest Deer Classics and Expos that we are going to attend in the next few months and we will be offering these spots at the shows.  This year we are going to limit this to 6 hunts, even if we have more bears hitting the baits we don't want to over hunt our resource.  We will put more people on our list.  First to be able to come will get the hunts.

Terry,

We will be happy to make this a weekend hunt.  You can fly into the Jackson Hole airport and we will pick you up.  Might be a nice three day weekend hunt.

Wyoming has an archery season that opens April 15.  Rifle season opens May 1 and runs to June 15.  Based on what I know from baiting bears we are not going to even start baiting until May 1.  Conditions will be too cold, too much snow on the ground to get access to decent bear country.  There just won't be very many bears out that early, cept maybe a scant few old boars.  Even though rifle season starts May 1, you can use any weapon all season long. after May 1.
