I use a propane torch; just gotta get a feel for it, and it is simple.

Some nice stuff here! I straighten if needed then torch them randomly around the shaft, check again for straightness and stain/seal if I'm using a stain/sealer. Let dry and start my finish coats. These are laminated birch. No nice grain to ruin by burning.

 

 

 

 

These are some footed cedars I stripped and redid after I trashed most of the feathers. Yes, that is an ancient boom-box in the background, LOL...
