Trees; natures punching bags.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

i use to hunt down in lowndes county ,in the black belt region of south alabama and came across a big cedar tree like this, started talking to the game warden and reading some stories, a tree like that is more than likely a sign post (read an article about it in feild and stream),its where differnt bucks roam in and out and hit the tree to say hey ive been here, put up a good game camera and try to enter scent free and check it in a few weeks, bet you will be surprised how many bucks hit it.
