Trad Shop in Albany NY
« on: April 17, 2007, 09:57:00 PM »
I am in VA, but heading to Albany this weekend to see family...anyone use Lemme's shop in Colonie?  Since I am new...I need an initial set-up, and having the ability to see what I am getting is key...I spoke to the owner today, and he seems like a nice guy.  Pete Darby pointed out a local guy I will be able to get arrows from in the future...but I am so excited to shoot, not sure I can wait to get back to VA and have arrows made...but I do like the idea of buying local when I can.

Anyways...any thoughts on Lemmes would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Matt

I would personally deal with Flying Arrow sports 2. they are pretty close to Lemmes, I believe. i know the owners and they are top notch guys. They also usually have a pretty good selection of trad gear. They are truly one of the best pro-shops anywhere around. Jim is the guy who runs that shop. He is a super guy.

Lemmes is as top notch as I have encountered. The folks are friendly, and the service is excellent. Selection isn't bad either. It's where I do most of my shopping (3Rivers gets the rest of my business).

You will do a bit better with Lemmes than Flying Arrow, but not much. When Tom Lemme ran the place he had a great selection of Trad gear, they still have a some, more than Flying Arrow and Mario at Lemmes does shoot Trad, he also bought out all of Silent Ponds arrow shafts and inventory. I know Jimmy Despart and he is a good guy as well, but if ya have one to visit go to Lemmes. If ya do go to Flying Arrow talk to Mary she has more knowledge of the Trad gear than most. Shawn

Wanted to close the loop on this post - and give some thanks to Mario at Lemmes.  I went there last weekend when I was home to see my folks.  Being new, I had lots of questions...and after Mario spent about three hours with me, I ended up walking out completely outfitted - well, at least for now!

The biggest change from when I went in to what I left with was I ended up with a dozen Whispering Wind footed arrows...in the length, weight and spine that suites my 55lb Border - talk about lucky.  I went to Lemmes intending to buy carbons...and after shooting a couple different ones around 500g, Mario had me try his new Whispering Wind shafts.  Well, they shot great.  Actually, they shot awesome and sounded great.  630g w/125 point, cut 29.5" and spinned 55-59lb at 29" they suited the bow well.  I also ended up with a German Ridge bag/quiver set up.

Bottom line - Lemmes prices are great.  Best I can tell, even if I bought all the pieces online, I would not have saved a dime.  Mario is truly an enthusiast and profession and I can not say enough about the experience.  He has a good selection or trad gear as well as compound bows/gear.  My only wish was his shop was closer to my home in Virginia...course, that would probably cost me a lot of money.

Oh - other great part of the visit...his Morrison Long Bow...no way he will sell, but I can tell you...that was one fine bow.  Appears to me...I am hooked on the traditional thing...
Cheers,
Matt
