First Experience with 2-Blade Heads (HELP!!)
« on: April 18, 2007, 08:29:00 AM »
Hey guys.  I decided to try a 2-blade broadhead for the upcomming turkey season.  I got some arrows comming from Ron LaClair so I did some research and found that a lot of guys like the Simmons Broadheads.  I wanted to stay with a 125 grain glue on head so I did some looking and found the Land Shark.  I was trying to sharpen them the other day and was having a really hard time.  I was trying to use one of the hand held broadhead sharpeners with the plastic handle like this one   Kustom King .So I looked in the How To section here and found the Zwickey 2 and 4 blade how to.  Would I use this same method for these heads that I have?  Is there a better way to get the job done?  Like I said this is my first experience with a 2-blade head so any help you could give is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance and have a great day.

Tim

I can't be much help to you except to tell you not to use the sharpeneer you are talking about. I have some 160gr Sharks and have never been able to sharpen them on my own. The sharpener you are using however doesn't work because of the angle of the blades. The Sharks have a much steeper angle on the blade. I have read that the sharpener available from Simmons works well though. Makes sense, since they make the broadheads.

Tim and Mark,
I have used Jerry's broadheads for years and the fastest and easiest way to sharpen them is by using Jerry's "wheelie" sharpener. He sells them for $6.95 on his website and they work great. You can get the heads shaving sharp in a matter of minutes. He also sells another sharpening systen for $39.95 that works well also. I bought both of them years ago and now only use the more expensive sharpener to "hone" the heads after they are sharpened on the wheelie. They are a great head so don't let the sharpening intimidate you into not using them. Get a wheelie......
