how to take arrows on a hunting trip?
« on: April 18, 2007, 03:19:00 PM »
I might be able to get in a pig hunt this coming year as a side venture while travling to Florida with my family. I can carry my bow on the plane since it is a TD I hope, but what do I do about Arrows with BH's on them? How do you guys do it?
I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

You'll have to check them...everything.  You haven't flown in awhile if you think getting on a plane with your bow will be possible.

Plan on checking everything.  I have a hard shotgun type gun case and an arrow box...goes in between my clothes, etc...in my checked bag.

I've cut the foam in a shotgun case and put bow and arrows in it and check it.

Great input . Thanks. Yep I have not flown much in a while. Sounds like the best to keep it all together in a gun case type thing. Great, thanks again.

I agree.  You won't be carrying a bow on board.  Pack it wrapped in some clothes or put it in a takedown shotgun case.  I use a length of 6" pvc pipe with foam for my arrows.  Hope this helps.  Brady

There may be a company out there who still makes hard T/D bow cases, luckily I still have mine.

What you can do is purchase a large duffle that rolls. Say 42" long, 18" wide. Not only can you place your hunting clothes, boots etc..in there, you can also fit 1 dz broadhead arrows in a arrow box. Take the bow apart, wrap it in thin bubble wrap, limbs separate from riser. Place your bow between your clothing along with your quiver.

Pack your hunting accessories in a large zip lock bag. I believe Cabelas sells these large wheeled duffle bags and they work fine. This way you only check one bag in, not a duffle and bow case. You will not be allowed to carry the bow, arrows or accessories on the plane with you.

Bob Walker and I were able to take our takedown bows on the plane with us a little over a month ago. There wasnt a problem. We did not carry any arrows or broadheads on as they were in our checked luggage.  Your biggest worry will be if your bags will arrive when you do.  :readit:

I put my limbs & riser in long hunting socks.  Then put each end in a boot in my duffle bag.  Arrows I put in a piece of PVC tube in my duffle.  Send it thru baggage.  In Boston you are going to get on a plane with you T/D bow.  Two years ago TSA didn't even know what a bow was.  They even wiped it down for gun powder!  Doc

One other option is to send your stuff through the mail, if you have a address on the other end. I sent mine from VA to TX and no problems.
