I have one to add to that!

As this is a rather large animal, lung shots will have varied effect,
so most certain is to aim for the heart which lies between the ribs,
below the Scapulae and behind/between the Humeri.

^^
I can also add fish, if that would please anyone  :)

LOL! That reminds me of the first time I saw a Reinhart carp target at a 3D shoot. I remember scratching my head, turning around and asking the other shooters in the group, "Does anyone know where the heck the kill zone's at on a carp?"

for black bear or any bear for that matter, see hogs.  It's the same.

I used tell clients to break the ballon between the elbows.

I don't know Mike, I know there's a lot of folks around here with more experience than me...but I believe there's more lung further back on a bear than a hog. Plus I don't think their spine dips anywhere near as much as hogs thru the shoulders.

I always thought that you pretty much shoot a bear like a deer...

I'll look into it bit more...and hopefully some others will weigh in as well...

It is true the spine does not dip down near as much on a bear as I have seen on hogs.  As Guru said a bear does a little biit more lung but not a lot. From my experiance you can shoot a bear jjust like a deer. Remember though there is a lot of hair on a bear. where the bottom of the chest looks like may not be the bottom at all. My theroy for bears and it has work several times is follow the back of the front leg up put it half way in the middle.

PS dont shoot a bear laying down it is really hard to get a solid hit. The shoulder covers up a lot when they are laying down.
