Shelf angled down to riser

What is the purpose of a shelf cut angling down to the riser face? I assume to keep the arrow on the shelf, but doesn't it cause the arrow to hit the shelf edge? How does this work?

IMHO if it is not too extreme it shouldn't give paradox clearence problems with a properly spined arrow but it could cause a strike on borderline spined or tuned arrows.

I would think with a shelf pad and sideplate it would not be a problem. You may even get less shaft contack , especially if you leave a small valley between the rest pad and the side plate.

An arrow will clear off to the edge of the shelf.
If there is any contact the edge will screw things up; I would make sure the bottom of the shaft is above that edge so it can pass freely.
