This is just a thought...not a recommendation.  You may want to just spend the $150 on some other gear that you want or save up for a solid pair of bino's.

Glass is definitely not a requirement for bowhunting elk...especially if they are vocal.

I also put mine on layaway back in the late '80s. I have two pair of Swarovskis. 8x30 and 8x20.I use the 8x20 way more than the others. The 8x30 are good for sitting and glassing. The 8x20 fit in my shirt pocket and I always have them with me. The difference in light gathering is about ten minutes in the morning and night. Gary

I personally use 10x42 Nikon Monarchs. They are about the best $300.00 bino out there.

Alpen optics are decent and the price is extremely fair. I have been thinking of purchasing a set for my nephews to use.

If you have a retailer near you, go check them out.

I recomend going in and spending some time behind the glass. Like stare at an object for a few minutes and then see how your eyes feel.

There is nothing worse than eye strain if you plan to spend a lot of time glassing. In my opinion, it can make or break a hunt for you.

You should notice a difference between the high dollar and low dollar glass. Find the glass that is in your price range and does not give you horrible eye strain.

Out West, optics can be as important as sight and sound.

Good luck.

I like the Minox 6X30 fixed for eastern whitetail hunting. They are very fast at picking up a moving object. Like a deer that's just sucked an arrow up.
When I get out west I use 8.5X42 Swaro ELs just incredible glass. There's nothing you miss with glass of that quality.
