My hunting partner and I have followed up on a lot of tips in locating some rabbit hunting areas, but they have all reached a dead end.  

It seems the population in all of Washington is way down...unless someone has another idea.

There is still time left to hunt this season, but ??

How about you guys in Oregon?

I still see plenty of them up here in Skagit County. The problem is finding public land to hunt them. The Skagit Wildlife Area used to have a decent population, but all the recent levy work seems to have had a negative effect on the rabbits in that area. I went there early last fall to check and didn't see even one.

I'd sure be interested in a bunny hunt, though, if a place can be found.

Several years ago the San Juan Islands held good populations of rabbits and the landowners accepted hunters.  The current generation of folks over there are not too hunter friendly.

Lots of them in southwest, problem is they all seem to be on private property.  I have been searching around trying to find some good areas near Vancouver, WA and not having any public land luck.  Anyone in for a possum hunt?  Lots of those critters running around down here. :-)

Have you guys thought about a Nutria hunt?

They can be fun to stalk. I used dogs to hunt them, but I also have friends that hunt them with compounds.

I know there are Nutria in Washington along the Columbia River and access to property is usually as easy as a knock on the door or a call to the Dept. of Fish and Game for property owners.

They are more of an morning evening hunt, but if you get in an area where there are lots, they are fairly easy to get within range on.

Sage Rats and Grey Diggers on the East Side of OR can be a lot of fun. I plan to take a trip sometime in June over east for a weekend and shoot stumps and rats.

Call Fish and Game for rabbit populations and potential property damage complaints. You can sometimes get on private via a biologist.
