I got my kit yesterday and got my netting cut out for my coat.  I then pinned it onto the coat with saftey pins.  When I got to tack it on with nylon, do I need to tie is at every interscetion of the netting?  Also, when I get started with the jute, it says to take 5 strings at a time and to tie them together on a piece of netting.  Is this enough jute per inch or not?

Russ Clagett

It really depends on how strong you want it to be..if you're gonna stalk around on the ground like a military sniper, then tie it in at every point and be prepared to repair it all the time anyway. If you're just gonna bowhunt/stand hunt with it, you can tie it in at like, every other point and it'll be fine.

Also go slow on the jute, and evaluate it as you go, otherwise you'll end up with a chubaka suit you can't use. The most common error is way too much jute and the suit ends up getting a haircut.

Also be aware that if it starts raining....you will quickly become aware of the term "obscenely heavy" and why military snipers avoid water obstacles whenever possible........

Good luck.....building a ghillie is how the military sniper really learns how to use profanity............

What Russ said and Thats why I prefer the synthetic material (no smell and less weight).
Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a
difference in the world, but the Marines don't have that problem.
