Bear Supermag 48

Anybody shoot one of these bows ?
Whats your opinion.
It looks like I can only get one in 45lb,,very odd since the man himself shot left handed.
I draw a little under 28" and the 45lb is fine by me.

I shot one for a couple of months in 2009.  It shot well.  However, I was not comfortable with the grip.  I would recommend trying one to make sure that the grip is for you.  If you want maneuverability, you will have maneuverability.

Your draw length will be no problem with the SuperMag 48.

I have heard stories about these bows failing... I have never owned one, but you may wanna look into that before going with one.  If you're in the market for a mag bow, you cannot go wrong with Cascade bows!  I had a Golden Hawk Mag that was an outstanding shooter.

I bought one new in about 197? Early 70's late 60's anyway. I still have it. It shot pretty well for me, and your draw length is very close to mine. The grip is the most radical of any of my bows, but the grip seems to be very repeatable.

For a brief period of insanity I shot a compound bow in a league. One night just for kicks some of us brought old recurves and messed around with them. I did not have tuned arrows for it, and the nock was not quite right, but at 20 yards my first two arrows were in the kill zone, and within a couple of inches of each other. The guy next to me asked "how did you do that?"-I replied "don't Know - just did it". I had not shot instinctive for a couple of years at least.

In retrospect, I think that was the night that I started rethinking about going back to recurves.

My brother in law bought a 55# SM48" at the same time, but sold his a few years ago. Do they just make  45# SM's now?

I have one that was pretty scratched up when I got it a couple years ago,the guy wanted 69 bucks for it   :D   I have to admit I havent taken the best care of it-Left it strung for long times and probably put a scratch or two in it myself but its held up so far.I like mine,but its about what will work for you so the best option would be to find one to try out.if thats possible.

Unfortunately I can't shoot before I buy because we have nobody carrying Bear bows in NZ nowdays.
Is The grip similar to the K Mag,I owned one of them many years ago,and I still have a 58" Brown Bear wall hanger and both those bows grips suit me just fine.

Ed, the grip is very close. I shoot straight grip longbows and have a 65lb super mag that shoots fine for me. It seems like shooting any other pistol grip bow.

I really cant say if its like the kmag or not if you want I could email you a picture of my grip and maybe you can tell?I personally havent had a problem with the grip,but I havent had experience with as many bows as some of the guys.

My son shot a doe with his 50# Supermag this year.  I have a Stalker and they're both about the same size.  Good little bows.

The first deer that I killed was in 1969 and I used a 50# @28" Super Magnum, 3 months after meeting the "icon" himself at the PBS Convention in Denver. Some people  can't shoot short bows well consistently, but if you can, you will love how functionable this bow is in treestands or Double Bull- type blinds. However, you will never get used to the "stacking" you will experience as you get close to full draw. Compared to the quality of present day bows, you can easily find a better performing bow.  Randy

One of my favorite shooters is a Kodiak Magnum. I have a few of them. The super grip is similar to the k mag though a little more pistolgrip like, but pistol grips are confortable for many people. I have never had any problems with failure but as with any bow you need to see the condition and be aware of any problem as I am sure you know. There are a quite a few people who collect only Super Mags like the guy from Stickbow dot com.

A friend of mine had one.He had a 27" draw.It held up just fine for him.I think people with 28 1/2" or more draw are wringing its guts out.And that`s when you have breakage.Sadly,he went back to the training wheels and sold the 48er.

I have two older K-Mags and a newer Super Mag.  The grip angles are very close, the Super Mag is slightly more acute, you can't tell unless you put the bows together.  The Super Mag grip has a more pronounced palm swell.  If you have small hands, you may have to break out the sanding block.  Bill

I shot one at cabelas. I really liked it. The grip does take some getting used to as the palm swell felt huge to me. But it wasn't horrendous and in ways I almost liked it. Great little bow, I'll get one in the future. I just happened to like the Savannah better...

I have one that is lh and 60#!  I love this little bow...I like the repeatability of the grip and it fits well in my turkey blind!!!  Great little bow...and I draw 29 1/2"!

I have a 2008 model 50# that I bought last summer slightly used but haven't shot it since I tried it out the day I got it. Picked up a early seventies 50# a couple days ago but haven't shot it yet. Comparing the two grips they seem a bit different and I think I like the feel of the older one better.
