Lookin' to hunt South Carolina in Sept.

I will be traveling to Hilton Head with some family for the week of the 11th or the 18th. I'm looking for an opportunity to shoot a pig. I'll have a little time to spend and I know it'll be deer season also. I just learned the dates, so I wanted to post this now to give myself as much time as possible to do the research.

The Savannah Wildlife Refuge has some hunts but I'm not sure of the seasons. It is federal but probably follows SC regs. Victoria WMA, between Bluffton and HHI is a nice WMA for deer hunting. They generally have 2 week long hunts for deer. Open for small game during most seasons I believe so hogs(if any there) can probably be hunted during any season.
I lived in Bluffton for 12 years(20 years ago)so I'm not up to date on any of this info. Check out websites for both for more info.
Plenty of hogs alone the New River between Bluffton and Savannah if you have access to a boat. Good striper fishing too.

Check with Ray Hammond. His lease is in S.C and when we were down there last April, we asked Ray when is the best time of year to hunt hogs in S.C.? Without hesitation He said "September/October when nobody wants to come". Send Ray a PM. Not sure how far Hog heaven is from Hilton Head but S.C. isn't that big. Could be a fairly close.

Thanks guys. I contacted Ray a couple of months ago, but it was about Feb. thru April. I'm going to get in touch.

If you are wanting to hunt government land you can check the SC Dept. of Natural Resources.
Bring a Thermacell!

I will second the thermacell and add use permanone on clothes as well unless you enjoy ticks and red bugs/chiggers.

I'm familiar with the prep for skeeters and chiggers. I live in Delaware and they say "things" get bigger the farther north you travel. This past season, I watched a skeeter turn my thermacell off and I swear I've seen chiggers that would eat a tick.
