I believe population density is the reason most of these shows are in the north. More people, more money being spent. If your looking for a great hunting oriented area to hold a show, with great indoor facilities, as well as a location with drawing power, Dallas/Ft. Worth has a lot to offer. PBS was in San Antonio a few years back.  Dallas/Ft. Worth is a lot easier to get to than San Antonio. The Dallas Safari Club has been doing quite well here for years. Just a thought.

There are more like-minded people living in closer proximity in the NE than there are in other parts of the country. Figure in population density, proximity to air and ground transportation, history of participation, minimal vendor travel (a lot of bowyers and archery suppliers are in the NE and midwest)and you can see why the traditional NE shoots continue to be successful.

There is an inverse relationship between vendor participation and shooter participation that is kind of chicken and egg in nature.  It takes shooters to attract vendors, but a lot of shooters don't want to travel if there aren't going to be significant numbers of vendors. Add rising fuel costs and you get a real catch 22 scenario.

Hats off to anyone who tries to start a big shoot in the SE.  I would really like to see you be successful with it.  I plan to hit some of the bigger shoots in the next year or two to see how we can improve what we do with our state championship shoot.

I would think somewhere close to Atlanta might work.  Close (relatively) to population centers in the south and easy to travel to.  Plenty of hotel space etc.

I'm spoiled having Denton Hill about 2 hours from here, plus my camp is only about 30-40 minutes from there.  Unfortunately, it falls on a bad weekend for me, the same weekend we do our family re-union every year.  I'm going to try to make it up on Friday this year though.

If someone does set one up in the south, I would think early spring - sometime in March maybe - would be good.  Not too hot yet there, and us northern guys are good and ready to get out of the cold by then.

Kazoo is a great mid-winter break for us Northern boys. South doesn't typically have the winter doldrums, and in fact may still be hunting. It would be hard to start-up and compete against some of the established events so I would think to try a time that would be unique to your area. I'll bet you might even find some help from vendors and event managers that would help you. I know Compton's has talked about moving the Rendevous to other sites and I agree that would be a great idea. A summer event I would travel to, but like you, I don't care how nice the weather is South, I'm not going that far during the Winter.

Only speaking for myself, of course, but I would be far more willing to make a long drive for an event If I could be relatively certain that the weather would be better and you would have lots of opportunities to shoot outside.  I couldn't justify driving all the way to Michigan if there wasn't a shoot associated with it.  Obviously it must be a great event, since others make the drive.  Just not for me.
