I just got a string identical to the one you're referring to and I have .030 serving on it. It is about right now but I don't know if it will be tight enough later after it wears. I tried double serving a string recently but I didn't have small enough serving. So, I just laid about 3 or 4 very small diameter strings longways on the bowstring and served around and it worked perfectly for my arrow knocks. I got this idea on here from someone, I can't remember who it was though.

For a 10 strand D97, I use .024 dia serving. No need to double serve. It does depend a bit on which nocks you are using though.

I have recently switch to useing brownell X-cell string material and if I use 12 strands per string I have to double serve mine as well. I use .022 and .018 making a .o40 serving. You may have to play around with different sizes to get what you need for your nocks. I am useing AAE Z-Nocks they are a double snap design. some other brands are wider and others have even thinner throats than the AAE's.

To do a double wrap make your bottom (inner)wrap about 1" longer on the top end than you normally would. On the outer wrap start 1/4" down from the top end of your inner wrap. Wrap it at least 3" past your nocking point for room for your fingers. you want to make sure both wraps are good and tight so the outer wrap won't come loose. I have used clear nail polish on my serving ends and the area my fingers roll off of the string to prevent unwrapping.

you will need to do a partial wrap of inner and outer to get the sizes of serving you will need.

I would think .30 single served would work. Thanks for reminding me I need to order some of that.

If you are double serving and padded loops, then why are shooting 10 strands? To me,if you are padding and double serving, you are adding additional weight to the string and loosing the advantages of a low strand string.Especailly in the center of the string!

i gained 8 fps switching to the x-cell string material and lost only 1 fps doing a double serving. although i don't have the padded loops.

i had to do a double serving because the strands are thiner and my nocks would not stay on the string with a .030 serving.

If you are using a 10 strand D97 string, normal .021 serving (BCY 62 or similar) with 2 extra strands layed down and served in with the string will fit most carbon nocks along with the Easton Uni-nock, .021 nylon will lay a bit flatter and may require a total of 3 strands.  If you are wishing to use larger nocks, say glue on nocks (AAE, index, etc...) then the larger .030 would most likely be very close.

You shouldn't have to double serve a 10 strand at all, even if you have to use a few extra strands of serving instead of D97 or B50 material, you can build it up.  Now it may look a little snakey the first time or two you try it, the trick is to get the jig tension set just right and to gently pull on the under laying strands as you serve over them and the main string.  But, this is all depending on the type of nocks you are using and what type(s) of serving you have available.  If I can be of any help, just let me know.

no matter how many strands are in yer bowstring, it's going to take some experimenting to find a center serving that will best fit (either very loose, or a loose 'hang' fit if yer a 3 fingers under archer) the throat slot width of your specific arrow nocks.

you hafta dial this in yerself.

you can thicken the center serving at the nock area with dental floss and thin cya, if need be.

i use bohning signature nocks on my beman ics arrow shafts.  8 strands of dyneema and a .019" halo center serving gives me a perfect loose fit for my split finger grip.  6 strands of dyneema and a .021" halo gives me the same loose nock fit.

again, the above works perfectly for a carbon arrow signature nock.  if i change to 11/32" woodies, with glue-on nocks of either tapered 5/16" nock or parallel 11/32" nock, there is no fit, the nocks float far too much in the center serving.  nock throat width is important!

how tight you serve the center serving can also play an issue - tighter serving makes for a looser fit, looser serving makes for a tighter fit.  :D

I just made another 10 strand D-97 last night.  I pad the loops to 12 and I also pad the serving area to 12, then serve.  To pad the serving area I wax it good and rub 2 12" pieces of D-97 in the center before I twist it up for the bow.  When I twist it up 50 twists or so the pad strings will stay in place while serving.  After I serve I loosen the string and remove the tag ends of the padding up to the serving.
