need some sharpening tips on eskimo 4 blades
« on: February 17, 2010, 12:02:00 PM »
well its the off season and for the next few months I was going to try out some different BH then the kind Is usually shoot. I usually shoot magnus II. I know a lot of people say good things about zwickey so I wanted to give them a try. I pick up some of  the 4 blade eskimos. I have got them shooting great and they seem to make no more noise then my 2 blade magnus heads do.

I am very pleased with this head except for the bleeder blade design. I wish they were removable for sharpening and replacing after a kill.

I am looking for some help on what system to use to get the bleeder blades sharp. The angle is pretty hard for me to get a file on or the accusharp. I was wondering what you guys use??

Thanks in advance.

KME broadhead sharpener. They have a special jaw for bleeder blades - and I think they are sponsors here.

KME Broadhead Sharpener will not work on the Zwickey four blades.  Terry's video is excellent.  I've also used the Tru-Angle files on those with very good results.

I wasn't able to find the ceramic that Terry uses, but a triangle file from Lowes did the job. With a little practice that method will give you shaving sharp heads. Remember to count down strokes, and finish with feather-light strokes, not even allowing the full weight of the file on the edge.

I was looking online for one of those triangle files and couldnt find one Ill have to run down to the home improvment store on the way home. Looks like a nice size and easy to bring with you for packing in for touch ups.

The way I sharpen them is to start out with the file (like Terry Green shows ya) to smooth out the factory grind.  Then I take a Rada knife sharpener (this was the "wheelie" sharpener that Simmons used to sell) for the main blade and an Accusharp for the bleeder blades.  You probably won't need to use the file again unless you dull 'em up real bad.

I made myself a jig like the s-24 sharpeners that I really like using two mill files set at 24-25 degrees.

I actually use a drimel tool to sharpen the bleeders and I add 3 small serrations to the bleeders aswell. I then use a file or accusharp to get the main blades sharp.

Thanks for the help guys.

Last night after work I found a triangle file laying around in some of my fishing stuff. It worked great and got the bleeders razor sharp in a hurry.
