Carbon arrow set-up help
« on: February 19, 2010, 11:48:00 AM »
I have some Easton AXIS 500 N-fused Carbon arrows. I understand that they take 9/32 inserts? Can I use some brass Glue-In/Glue-On adapters (as in the 3Rivers catalog) for my glue on field points and broadheads?

New to the whole carbon thing, but do they ever fly nice!

You can use those brass glue-in/glue-on adapters, but I have heard of those braking off.I prefer to us the heavier brass inserts, like the newer 50-75 gr. or the 100 gr..Carbons fly great but I feel they need to be tuned because they don't come in as many different spines as wood or aluminum.I would start full length with which weight inserts you are looking to use.I use the saran method for tuning carbons.I use saran wrap and squeeze in the insert to hold it in snuggly.Shoot and trim and tune from there, but you need a softer target like a bag target that doesn't grab too tight to pull the insert back out. With this method I get my carbons tuned with the weight I'm looking for without glueing the inserts or using any heat on my carbons.Tuned carbons will fly great and are a lot tougher then wood or even aluminum.
