New Ultracam string for Saluki
« on: February 20, 2010, 09:59:00 AM »
I had Frank Bullitt make me an 8 strand ultracam string for my Saluki Ibex. The quality is excellent. I put the new string on my bow and left it over night before shooting. I shot it several times and checked the brace height. It had only dropped 1/4". I left it strung for a week and shot it a lot last evening. The brace height did not change. The string does seem to be noticeably quieter. Not sure about increase in speed, which is not important to me anyway. But it is more quiet! If you would like a quality string, contact Frank on this site. I liked it so well I had him make me a second one.

Frank has made me strings before, nice work, good strings.  I may need to try an 8 strand string for my Sidewinder. A guy always needs a spare string.  :archer:

Frank is a great guy to deal with. He tells you when he is going to mail the string out-and does it! The price is hard to beat. I am really liking the Ultracam material.

Thanks DTD for your post !

You are the first one to test a skinny string on those wonderful Saluki bows.   :clapper:

I'm glade you also notice a noise reduction with your new string.

I'm in the process of ordering a new Ibex and your info on speed improvement with your new string could help me to choose the draw wheight of my new bow.

Can you test your Ibex with a shooting chrony and show your conclusion to all of us (Saluki lovers)

Thanks for your post and for sharing your experience !

Francois

Francois,

Sorry, I do not have access to a chrony. If I can find one I will certainly post the results.I shot the bow a lot today and the brace height has still not changed.  My bow is a 58" 54 @ 28 and I am pulling around 29 1/2. It is really smooth and smokes an arrow. You will really like the Ibex. It has become my favorite bow.

Doug,

Thanks for your answer !

I love Ibex too, I've already two of them ...

First one : 58@28 60"
Second one : 57@29 60"

The last one shoot a 542 gr arrow at 192 fps and a 492 gr arrow at 198 fps. Finger release @29" with a crickit draw check.

That's plenty fast for me and that's was with a relatively high brace height of 7" 1/2 (the recommended one is 7")

Did you send your old string to Frank Bullitt ?
What about the weight differences between the original Saluki string and your new 8 strand ultracam ?

Shoot straight and have fun !
Francois
