Footing nock end of carbon arrows
« on: February 21, 2010, 10:36:00 AM »
I went out stumping yesterday had a great time. I had a nock come out on one of my MFX 340 I put it back in and on the next shot it broke could the shaft have split some, I could not see any damage. Could using 1/4" footing the nock end help or hurt?
Any info would help.

Thanks

Dave

I use 3/8th too 1/2" never lost another knock on 250 cx heritage, prior too footing knock ends, I was splitting the shaft down about 1/2", problem solved after footing I also foot the front, makes for a very tuff arrow.

Sure putting a small footing on the back ends will keep the back end from cracking.Just like the bulldog collars on Carbon Express Maxima line.

How many people are having problems with splitting the nock ends of their arrows?  I have never seen a carbon arrow split at the nock end from regualr use.  This includes ten years of use shooting compounds?  There are enough posts about footing the nock end that this seems to be a common thing.

I have been using 1/2" lately but have used 1/4".I doubt it matters as to length. They help a lot.

Take care to examine the end of that shaft. You don't want to shoot that again if there is a crack.

I had trouble with a batch of Gold Tip nocks breaking,at the shot, and got some Signature nocks from 3Rivers and that solved the problem.

Also, anytime a plastic press in nock comes out they never stay in as well again! You are better off puting in a new one.

I read on here that you can use saran wrap, just put over the shaft and then press nock in is supposed to work? haven't tried it yet.
