Tru Angle Sharpener?

Im decent at sharpening, but don't think that i get my heads as sharp as others claim to! Is the Tru Angle Sharpener a good product? It looks fool proof? Fred Bear always liked a really ridgid "Working Edge" on his heads and could be seen always working the file on boat rides and such to keep the edge up on em! I was wondering if that type edge is as good as a razor type edge, i would say that most of mine get that "Bear" type of edge on them as i use a Redi Edge to sharpen them! I get a good bloodtrail and have short recoveries!!!

Its called the S-24 sharpener in 3Rivers! 2 files on a board at set angles and you just push the broadhead through!

I made my own about twenty years ago. It is basically the same as what you are talking about only with 12 inch files. I get a longer stroke that way. I had a cabinet maker cut the wood and then screwed the files down. The secret with those sharpeners is to turn the blade over every time and lighten the pressure at the end to where you are barely touching it. They also get dull over time so you have to replace the files. I also use a crock stick on mine after the files to get a really sharp edge. Shaves hair easily. Gary

They work very well IMO.  However, do need the file block as well as the hones.  Need the file to take down the extra steel, rebevel the triple laminated point areas on broadheads like Magnus and Zwickey, etc, before you put them on the stones.

The one i have beeen lookin at has 12" files on it! Sells for bout $28! I was thinking of maybe stropping after getting a good edge or maybe use a Jewel Stick like on the #Rivers demo video to get a final touch!

Really like mine.  Where they come into their own is on new heads to get them set and for removing bad dings when you hit things like rock.

Take a magic marker and color the surfaces to be ground.  This allows you to see the results and know when you have gone far enough.

Will they sharpen the bleeders on a Zwickey?

I used the Tru-angle hones for years but was never satisfied with the sharpness.  Then I started using the KME BH sharpner.  It is idiot proof and if you want really sharp....it's the way the go.

Spikemaster:  Yes, but not in the standard way.  The block channel is not deep enough to put the main blade in it.  I just pull the bleeders across the top edge of the stone and alternate from one side to the other of the stone to do each side of the bleeder.

I am with Orion for the bleeders.I am been using Tru-Angle for many years with great success,my broadheads are scary sharp.I just dont use the file but more steps.I start with the file to change the angle,then I use the diamond block or the the more aggresive stones then the fine stones and finally the leather strop.Most people apply too much pressure,this is the most common mistake.

I have a set since 1987, and they work great for the old Bear razor heads and Pearson switchblades, Razor sharp! The bevels on those heads match to a tee, those of the S-24.

But for other 2 or 4 blades, a Diamond or file set is needed to change the angle.
