I want to make flu flu's
« on: February 24, 2010, 01:14:00 PM »
I am wondering what the cheapest shafts would be for making a dozen flu flu's.  I shoot a 45# Grizzly at 28".  Thanks

Electronically spined POCs I would think would be the cheapest.28-32 a doz depending on where you buy them.

Cheap carbons will run about 45-55 a doz.More durable, possibly cheaper in the long run that way.

I met a guy last year, who makes all of his arrows from hardwood dowels from the hardware store and says they work great as long as you spine and weigh them.I haven't tried it myself yet,but think I will for flu flus.If I dont like em,by my math the finished arrow would be under 2 dollars.
He said, the only thing that cost him is the feathers because he hasnt found enough of them cheap to warrant proccesing his own and either used leftover points from broken arrows or 38 casings as blunts.
If he got ahold of a turkey farm somewhere,he's probly got his cost down under a dollar per arrow.
Measure twice, cut once, then beat it to fit

Check with paul from Badger Arrow, he sells the Douglas Fir for a great price, I think $36 for a dozen. A great shaft for a flu flu, just got a dozen from him and couldn't be happier!

any used aluminum shaft. I really don't think spine matters as much with that glob of feathers and the short range of shooting. I have a bunch of them $2ea. That is what I will be doing with them when I find some time.

The cheapest shafts for me are used/damaged aluminums. I cut out the damage and splice in some extra length, giving something that would otherwise collect dust a second life. The only time I buy shafts for flu-flu’s is when they need to be dipped and crested to match other arrows…works for me. Enjoy, Rick.

I use any extra, damanged tip I can cut off, odd size, odd lenght arrows I have.  The spine is basically irrelevant with a flu flu -- that much feather creates so much drag and stabilization that it doesn't matter.

I use the spiral fletch method -- there is a super easy tutorial on how to do that in the "how to" forum.  I believe Guru did it.
