How Do Most Bowyers Measure Draw Weight @ 28"?

Do most Bowyers measure a 50#@28" bow 28" to back side of riser or 26 1/4 to deepest part of grip? Let me know because I've been finding some differences in my bows weights.

Hi Jake,
Can't speak for other bowyers but we use the AMO-approved standard which is (for 28" AMO draw weight) measured 26.25" from the throat of the grip.  We use a digital calibrated scale on ours.

The difference I think is in the accuracy of the scale used.  I think there are some out there with not so accurate scales.  Then there could also be a little fudging the numbers here and there to the next whole # and that could throw things off a little more two different bows being marked the same, but off a pound or so in comparison.  I was told my one boyer that the bows will settle into a weight and often drop a pound or two in the process.  I don't know about that.

Everybody does it their own way.
My "standard" is measured to the back of the bow.
Why would you measure it to the center of the bow handle, is that all the longer your arrows are. Seems to me I draw the arrow to the back of the bow, not the center of the bow. hmm

i got tired of messing with analog spring scales and just ordered out an easton digital.  imo, a good bow scale is more important than a chrono ... though we as bowhunters really don't need either.  :D

On the bows I've checked, 26.25" to the throat of the grip generally equates to 28" to the back of the shelf, or too close to worry about it.

AMO does specify 26.25" from the throat of the grip for a 28" draw weight specification.

Some refer to measureing to the throat of the grip as "true draw", which makes it confusing and will make the numbers seem much better than they actually are if you don't know any better.  I.E., 28" "true draw" is actually almost 30" AMO (29.75").

I also agree that the scales used can be a big cause of variance.  I've heard of some bowyers, and seen several shops, using regular old hanging scales (clearly marked "not legal for trade").

i know how some bowyers measure and not all do it the same! although a true standard that everyone used would be great! Too bad they don't all look up what is considered the gold standard.
