A friend brought a new Predator with phenolic in the riser (grip half). It had a high gloss finish and I couldn't believe how great it looked!  The black phenolic looked like obsidian. While I really liked the beautiful finish though I probably wouldn't buy one like it because it is just so shiny.

I have shot a solid phenolic riser from a well know bowyer.  I didn't think it was stiff enough.  IMO ya need some glue lines in it to make it shoot right for me.  I shot another one that had two glass (or carbon strips).  it was nice and stiff.

If the riser is fully phenolic should you see any type of grain through it? Or is there a all black diamond wood on the market?

We offer black phenolic and black DymondLux in all of our risers now.  Pricing depends on how much phenolic you want.

Does anyone know where to get solid blocks of phenolic suitable for risers in the correct dimensions?

I think that Roy Hall makes them too. I know he made one for me about three years ago.

I have a shrew classic hunter with carbon foam limbs and a bow bolt that has a black phenolic handle.  The shrew has less mass than a lot of bows and Ron recommended going to the phenolic for a more substantial handle to contain the bow bolt.  I think this was the right choice and would do it again.

I saw one of Cascades phenolic risers.

Are we all talking about linen phenolic? Or using phenolic to also describe a black synthetic material other than with linen in its makeup?

This is what was the material used for the Cascade is and you can see the fine lines in the black- very elegant.

Joshua, wondering because he loves the linen one.
