Here's one for you............
« on: March 20, 2010, 03:59:00 PM »
I finished up some 80#-85# 11/32" tapered to 5/16" the other day. I bareshafted some with 160gr. tips and found 29"bop worked well. So I grabbed 4 fletched arrows this morning and shot them. Had a good 4" group. I noticed one had a little wobble in the air...nothing bad, just not a dart like the others.  I go up to the target and pull them out. One of the arrows was still FULL length, uncut, no taper and field point!!! I had grabbed one that was not finished. But it flew at 31" just fine fletched with 5" shield cut helical twist fletchings.  What really amazed me was it even stuck in the bag target! So evidently the difference in 160gr tips and the 20+gr for added length wasn't enough to stop the arrow from performing well.....I'll still bareshaft tune my arrows, but I thought this was pretty interesting.
Isaiah 49:2...he made me a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver.

Go figure,Was it a little faster or slower on release?

Did something close the other day. Accidently picked up a couple full length 35/55s with 125 gr points on them along with my usual 30 inch 55/75s with 300 gr points. The 35/55s were hitting about an inch high at 20 yards out of a 54# bow..... The total group size was less than 4 inches. I've got a box of 70 or 80 arrows of all different lengths and spines. Think I'm gonna go take the whole dang box out and shoot them all into one target. Just to see how big a group I get.  :D

i was shooting one evening witha friend, one held the arrows and one shot. Well, we had practiced all evening, and i was shooting. Some time during the course of practice one of the inserts and all came out of one of the arrows. When I shot there was a very noticable difference in speed and flight. No harm though. Now i pull and pocket all of the arrows i shoot. It could have cost a bow.

You know, I don't even remember if it flew slower or not. Just remember it had a slight wobble in the air. I thought maybe I had just plucked the string or something.
