New B55 String Testing from LBR
« on: March 20, 2010, 08:30:00 PM »
I recieved a new B55 string from Chad yesterday. It is made really nice, top notch,so I braced it on my 50# Bear Kodiak Hunter and shot 5 arrows and checked the brace height again, it had moved 3/8 so left it strung last night and checked it again this morning and it settled another 1/2 ". I rebraced it and shot about 20 arrows ,rechecked the brace and it had'nt moved.I shot about 200 or so arrows and rechecked still there.I can't tell much differance in the sound or speed compared to B50 they are both very quiet and about the same speed.I'll shoot it some more tomorrow and report back.

I would like to thank Chad for lettig me try the new B55.I think it is going to be some good stuff.

What's the difference beyween the 2? Is B55 made of something other than Dacron? Is it a lower stretch than B50? are the strands thinner? Yes, I'd like to see more info. Ray

Made of 100% polyester
similar to Dacron,
BUT EVEN BETTER:
• 100% polyester
• Better durability
• Very low stretch
Recommended number of strands:
For recurves: 12 to 16
For older crossbows: 22 to 26
Approx. ft/lb. waxed: 4300
Recurves:
Suggest 62 braided center serving and
2S end serving or 400 nylon

2elkhunt, you say it is low stretch, and also stretched gained 7/8".  My B50 strings gernerally don't stretch more than that from their first bracing.  Am I missing something?

Thanks for the review Bill!

B-55 is BCY's "new" dacron string material.  It's not meant to replace FF type materials.

It seems to have a lower amount of stretch/creep than BCY's B-500, but it still has a lot compared to Dynaflight '97 or 8125.  I have a jig that I use to put my strings under 200-300 lbs of tension--they draw back up some, and how much stretch you get on a bow will depend on a lot of different factors:  strand count, draw weight, temperature, etc.

Still waiting to hear from several others, both long and short term opinions.  I don't think B-55 will be a "magic" string material (no such thing IMO), but so far it looks like it will be an improvement over B-500.

Thanks for letting me try the new B55.On first inspection the string is well made and the quality is super!I really liked the serving it fit my nocks very well. I put the string on and shot it 25 times and it stretched 1/4", after setting over night it stretched an additional  1/4"+, then after another 30 shots it relaxed an 1/8" more. After 50+ more shots it relaxed an additional 1/8" then settled in and hasn't moved since.I like the string and believe it is a little quieter than the B50 and the stretch is about the same. My next strings will be the B55 unles something happens between now and then.  Ben
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

I received my string from Chad this week as well. The bow I'm using it on is 67@28 and I like a lighter than average string by most folks' standards. The string stretched about 5/8" in the first 24 hours of being strung and hasn't budged since. So far I've put between 350 and 500 shots out of the bow and I've left it strung. No additional creep after the initial adjustment. This bow is 72# at my draw length and I normally have a heck of a time shooting a string in before it stops stretching. I like this stuff- its not fast flight but I'll never put FF on my older bows- they are all over 65#- so this is an improvement in my eyes. Thanks Chad. I'll be in touch.   Grant

I decided that my posts were in the wrong place and needed to be moved to the Product Reviews forum. Here is the one originally posted here on the LBR B-55 string:  http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=31;t=000790.  I also posted a review of some new dental floss that I used on the B-55 string to attach the string silencers and to create a nock point:  http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=31;t=000791.

The short story is that the LBR B-55 string is great, so read my other posting in the Product Reviews for the details. The new dental floss is the best I have found for the uses I described, so you might want to check that out too.
