Quiver Build/tool along FINISHED
« on: March 21, 2010, 05:25:00 PM »
Decided to build me another side quiver and take the Gang along for the ride.

It's gonna be a side stalker type quiver modeled after several types that I like. I decided to fancy this one up a little and try my hand at leather tooling.

Heres a few pics

That is looking real nice!!! Did you use a stencil or just free hand the design on the leather before tooling? Looking forward to more pics..Henry

I used a pattern for the design and a basic 7 piece tooling set.

 More to come

I have been thinking of building a side quiver of leather also, but am a novice at it.  What weight leather are you using?  I was looking at the 8 - 10 oz.

it is 7-8 oz vegetable tanned leather. if you are do any kind of tooling you have to use veg tan. If not you can get a good piece of latigo leather in 7-8 oz or 8-10 oz as well.

Heres some new pics

I got the body tooling done and got the piece stitched in that will hold the plug in the bottom. I'm going to use apice of wood for the plug so it can be removed to clean her out good at the end of each season. I also started cutting the slots for straps and braided a few buttons out of thong.

Here is a pic of the braided buttons.

Looks like and awesome start.

Very inspiring.  I have made 6 back quivers without any fancy work.  This is motivating me to give some fancy leatherwork a try.

Well guys I finished it up and heres the pics.

I put a cedar plug in the bottom that can be removed for ease of cleaning.

I used all in one leather dye and oiled it up real good after the dye dried. I know it aint the best build along but it gives some ideas anyway.

Here are the finished pics. I decided to donate this to the St judes auction so if any body wants it that's where it will be.
