Bear Grizzly - What would you pay?

I keep finding myself looking at 60's model Bear bows on **** thinking I should pick one up. . . just cause - frankly not a huge fan of how they shoot, but that's just me. What would you consider reasonable price for the model in good shape with decent riser wood?

I bought in the same Auction site one 1968 Tigerwood Grizzly for 200 US$ plus shipping, the seller don't tell me some problems because the price was not up to 170 US$. I think it's the right price for a "normal" lightly used Grizzly.

Bows on the auction site tend to go a bit above  "normal".  A bow as you describe should sell for $125-$150 with bows above 50# bringing slightly more.

I suggest putting a want ad here in the classifieds.  (I was looking for a '66-67 Griz and got a good one here for about $100.)

What year Grizzly are you looking for?  I've got quite a few scattered across the years 1953 to 1970.

No more than $100.

Bottom line is that it's a "40 something" year old bow that could either shoot for years..... or "give up the ghost" at any time.

If you were a serious Bear collector,and needed a specific model for your collection of "wall hangers" then maybe I could see paying more. But,for a "shooter" $100 tops. Just imagine yourself paying $200 or $300 only to string it up,draw it back,and have it fold up on you!!! If you look around and hit the yard sales and flea markets regularly,you will find then much cheaper than you ever will on the auction sights.

(BTW, I haven't payed more than $80 for any one of mine)

I have aquired several older bear recurves and have found that if your looking for a solid shooter,and dont mind filling a few holes a hundered bucks is average. Glen

At this point in time, especially, bows are NOT a good investment.  They are only worth what someone will pay for them.  As Bjorn said, if you don't like them, why bother?  If you're a collector, maybe.  But if you're speculating, be vewy, vewy careful!!

Not trying to speculate, or make money off it. Just thinking it's a pretty iconic bow to have in the collection (just starting). A lighter poundage one (45 or so) might be a good bow to build form on too. I am currently a one recurve fella - Trees Shadowhawk 49@28 & I'm about a 29.5 draw length. I'm not a fan of the laminate or died wood ones, but have seen several with pretty darn nice wood on them.

Hi... the only reason I bought my '68 Tigerwood 56" Grizzly was the unique year it was produced in this lenght/wood. It make a Twin with one Magnum 52" in Tigerwood in my wallrack.

The 64 Grizzly has a zebrawood riser.  I bought another because of the unique color.  Notice the difference in the 2.
