Two Feather questions
« on: March 31, 2010, 12:15:00 AM »
1. How can you know if your feathers are right wing or left wing if they all get mixed up together? ( Turkey)

Little white worm in a bunch of my feathers , I think they have been eating on them. I have placed them in gallon bag. One on top one on bottom and taped up. Not sure if its air tight. Before I had them loosely in plastic wolly world bag. Im thinking about putting them in the freezer to hopefully kill the worms.
2. Will that work or will it hurt the feathers?

Being an old timer and a bit old fashioned I put a few moth balls in with my feathers. The newer ones don't smell so bad.

Freezing will work and won't hurt the feather.

Mothballs work well. The leading edge of the feather has short "biots". The back edge has the longer stuff you use for fletching. Orient the quills as if they are coming off the wing and you will quickly see which is which.
