you see these advertisements about human scent that kills 99% of human odor.well that is bull i have used them all for 40 yrs or more.but i have found what works for me.my buddy carves alot he uses cedar wood.he saves me his shavings.i take 2 big handfuls of shavings to 11/2 quarts of water put tham in a pan mix them up put them on the stove an boil them for 2 hours when they cool i strain the water off an use the cedar scent as a cover scent.to me that works as good as any store bout.i use a spray bottle.i think cedar masks human odor at least i smell good.

I like to rub sagebrush all over while I am walking. It has such a strong odor that it must mask human scent somewhat, and I like the smell.
The cedar scent should work really well where there is a lot of cedar around.

You can hide or overpower oders to the human nose. But deer and most prey animals have an incredible sense of smell and can detect and process a great number of different scents at the same time. Attempting to add another oder to the mix simply means they detect you and the new oder - does nothing to hide your smell.

I've taken several deer over the years taking a stand underneath big cedars scattered among hardwoods and seemingly go undetected by passing deer. Luck? maybe, but I still look for the big cedars with low canopies to sit under.

I like to keep my clothes and boots in a bag with fir limbs for hunting in my area.  It is not about removing my scent, it is about minimizing it.  I hunt a lot of areas with swirling winds out here and have had deer get a short whiff of me with the fir cover scent.  The perked up looked around and went back to feeding.  On a strong or steady gust towards them they blow out of there no matter what.  For me, I use descenting soaps and the fir cover scent to give me a small edge.

It is all about reducing the total impact I make in the woods.  Sometimes the wind gets you and if you have minimized your scent you can still move in and make the kill.  Does it help, in my view yes. Is it a cure all?  No it isn't.  Playing the wind is still the most important factor in scent control.  If I waited for a steady wind I would never hunt in my area.

I have a friend that smokes menthol's all day long while hunting and only hunts off the ground , he use's these spots that he stands as ash trays -hundreds of spent butts . Has multiple close encounters with many deer - he always plays the wind - but I have a notion that these deer are use to the spent butts and whatever tobacco is left behind . He always kids that his cigs are his attractant scent/or lure . It's been working to his advantage for many years . Put it this way it either mask's his scent or they chew on the butts when no one is around - because I strongly believe that it does not deterr their movement in any way whatsoever .  :archer:

When I lived in Maine and there were apple orchards every where and apples were plentiful I would collect them. They are usually still on the trees and on the ground well into the cold season. I would stomp on them before I started into the woods. My clothes and gear wear kept in a container with the apples. It does work.

If cover scent makes you hunt more confidently then go for it. Some will say it makes no difference... of course some will say to turn off your cap lock key as well. I tend to agree.
