I had problems cresting with sharpies over spay paint then seeling with poly. It seemed that the poly would not cure over the areas with sharpie even after a few coats. I got pretty in depth and drew stars and designs on mine. Then when I straighten an arrow and run a impliment to straighten down the shaft it smears the sharpie and that is under four coats of poly. So I don't think it works with poly

The paint pens don't run at all. They work on carbon, wood and alumininum.
